Energy Company Obligation

Energy Company Obligation

Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

At Enegex, we help households across Great Britain benefit from the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, a government-backed initiative designed to improve energy efficiency, lower heating bills, and reduce carbon emissions.

The scheme provides non-repayable grants that cover the cost of insulation and heating upgrades, helping families enjoy warmer, greener, and more affordable homes.

What Is the Energy Company Obligation?
The Energy Company Obligation requires major UK energy suppliers to fund energy-saving home improvements. These upgrades may include:
  • Loft, cavity wall, or solid wall insulation
  • Heating system replacements (e.g., free electric storage heaters)
  • Room-in-roof insulation
  • Renewable options such as air source heat pumps and solar panels
ECO4 – The Current Phase
We are now in ECO4, the final phase of the scheme, running until 2026. Its main focus is improving the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings of homes while targeting support for low-income and vulnerable households. If your property is electrically heated and you receive income-related benefits, you could qualify for a fully funded home upgrade.
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible if:
  • You own your home, or rent privately (with landlord consent)
  • Your property has poor energy efficiency
  • You or a household member receives qualifying income-related benefits
  • Landlords themselves cannot apply directly but can encourage tenants to apply.
